I'm a bit late but here we go: Walking is like a form of therapy for me. It gives you time and space to think and to confront your thoughts without shoving them away which is good because it lets you enjoy all those happy thoguhts and sort out the not so happy ones. Walking is the most beautiful way to travel (apart from on a horse of course :P ), because you look at your surroundings differently, you have more time to appreciate what you see. You can't find that beautiful quiet spot or that perfect photo location on a bike or by car. Walking also lets you appreciate distance in a completely new manner, I walked part of the Camino de Santiago once and spending two weeks walking a distance that I could now drive in 3 hours makes the world seem much bigger and much more adventurous. I also like the rythm of walking: after a few km its like your feet do their work and your mind can wander off on its own and the world just passes by while you can enjoy what it has to offer
